  CITIZEN'S SHERIFF'S ACADEMY

OBJECTIVE The objective of the Sheriff's Office Citizen's Police Academy (CPA) is not to produce "quasi-cops", but to produce informed citizens. The CPA is intended to open the lines of communication between the community and the Sheriff's Department.
OVERVIEW The participants are encouraged to ask questions and give feedback concerning the operation of the Sheriff's Department. Participants meet Sheriff Wright and his command staff on opening night and then go on a tour of the department facilities. Each week thereafter, the class receives a presentation from each of the departments major divisions, including Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Detention, Training Academy, Narcotics Task Force, Crime lab, and others. Graduates are usually extended an opportunity to participate in a ride-along program with a deputy.
MEETINGS The Academy usually meets on Thrusday evenings between 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM for 12 consecutive weeks. Two sessions are held each year. One in the Spring and one in the Fall.
ALUMNI A number of our graduates who wish to continue their CPA experience have formed a CPA alumni association. It meets monthly and promotes Sheriff's Department programs in the community through volunteer efforts and fundraising..
