The Public Information Officer serves as the central source of information that is released by the Department. The PIO responds to the news media and the community regarding requests for information.

The PIO is available to assist news personnel in covering routine news stories and at the scenes of incidents. In addition, the PIO is responsible for assisting the news media on an on-call-basis, prepares and distributes news releases, coordinates and authorizes the release of information about victims, witnesses, and suspects. As well as the aformentioned, the PIO is assigned to assist in crisis situations within the agency and coordinate the release of authorized information concerning confidential agency investigations and operations.
